Other details: The most recent Friars Club Roast brought together legendary comedians, actors and musicians, all to poke fun at their longtime friend and colleague, Jack Black. The honoree took shots from Roastmaster Bob Saget who led a dais that included Friars Club Abbot Jerry Lewis, Friars Club Dean Freddie Roman, Sarah Silverman, Richard Belzer, Jeffrey Katzenberg and Oliver Platt. Roaster after roaster took their turn making Jack Black the butt of their jokes, referencing moments from his long movie and eclectic music career. The rest of the dais was not spared, however, as many roasters grilled Gene Simmons, Dee Snider, Padma Lakshmi and Al Roker. The barrage of jokes took a pause when Richard Marx, accompanied by a stringed quartet, performed a soothing rendition of Tenacious D’s “F- Her Gently” – which left Jack red in the face. Finally, it was Jack Black’s turn to take the podium, admitting that he was nervous because he’s not “a mean guy by nature.” In typical fashion, Jack’s humor shined through as he provided his own version of “roasting” his guests.
