Other details: Last night, HBO held a screening for Mr. Dynamite, a documentary chronicling the “rise of James Brown.” Produced by Mick Jagger, the film chronicles Brown’s music career, diving into the funk singer’s personal style and even political involvement. Luminaries from Brown’s career walk viewers through the musician’s story; Mick Jagger and Rev Al Sharpton offer humorous commentary as do fellow band members Martha High, Christian McBride, and Fred Mesley. High, McBride, and Mesley were all in attendance to celebrate the new film.
Following the film screening, guests left the screening room at Time Warner Center for an intimate reception next-door at the Park Café. Partygoers were treated to a decidedly southern menu, including chicken and waffles and sweet tea. Model Garrett Neff dined on food stemming from Brown’s Georgian roots, while Vanity Fair’s George Wayne and Fern Mallis chatted at a table near the bar. Wayne then continued to work the room, snapping photos of the atmosphere. At a nearby table, Amy Sacco caught up with Cinema Society’s Andrew Saffir. Tali Lennox, Anna Sui and The Blacklists’s Diego Klattenhoff were also on hand to fete HBO’s latest release.
