Planning A Sky High Summer Date: Love On The High Line

by Roxana Hernandez · July 6, 2011

If you haven't been to the High Line yet, you're missing out. Now that the weather is gorgeous, it's time to take advantage of all the activities going on. Forget about the very cliched picnic at Central Park and impress your date with an all day experience at New York's only sky high garden.

    Take The Tour

Begin your day bright and early and take a stroll through the garden. Get to know the park's one of a kind horticulture design and enjoy the gorgeous botanical view together with The High Line's Early Morning Walking Tour. The  tour starts at 8 am so be there early! An expert gardener will point out early birds and butterflies during the tour.

Stop At The Lot On Tap

After your morning stroll through the garden take a break a go to The Lot on Tap for lunch. The beer garden itself actually doubles the the size of the existing park, stretching from 20th the 30th street along 10th Avenue. It's right under the High Line, so it's not hard to find. This new beer garden serves local wines and seasonal beers- even featuring a beer exclusively made for Lot on Tap by the Brooklyn Brewery, called Brooklyn High Line Elevated Wheat. Along with drinks, there is a series of food trucks, including lobster rolls, dumplings, and ice cream sandwiches.

    People Watch

After having a few brews, head to the benches and enjoy each other company and do what New Yorkers do best, people watch. On Tuesdays when the sun goes down, make sure you join Friends of the High Line and the Amateur Astronomers Associate of New York and star gaze using high-powered telescopes, and get a lesson from the experts on the wonders of New York City's night sky!

So whether, you only take a morning walk together through the sky high garden or just get a few drinks of the exclusive beer for lunch, the High Line is the new date hot spot.
