Alexis and Alexandra, like most urban girls, spent years hunting down and seeking out the coveted sample sales at odd hours of the day. In 2007, however, these Harvard Business School friends put their foot down and launched their first “flash sale” on Giltgroupe.com. This luxury sample sale website hosts 36 hour flash sales every day in now 3 categories: apparel, city based events, and travel deals. The team combined Alexandra’s background in luxury and fashion with Alexis’s background in e-commerce to generate a viral marketing plan that reached consumers across the country.
