If you thought the last of the bohemians had been priced out of New York long ago, you will be happy to know that "gypsy tailor" Alix Verley-Pietrafesa is still traipsing around the East Village, wearing vintage robes and luxurious textiles from Istanbul, Morocco, and Provence. The fashionable free spirit is better known as Alix of Bohemia, a moniker she shares with her delightfully unique and gypset-cool label of jackets and waistcoats. Hand-cut appliqués, globally sourced fabrics, and Alix's expert eye for mixing and matching patterns all result in colorful, limited edition, and occasionally made to order pieces that look like they've come straight out of Peter Beard's journal or a photo-book of Woodstock. As fellow hippies at heart, we couldn't pass up the chance to chat with Alix at her "tree-house" in the city and try on some of her gorgeous work.
