Why travel all the way to Sochi when you can go to Brighton Beach? Ok, not quite the same but not quite so different either. With its high population of Russian immigrants and proximity to a shoreline, Brighton Beach might be as close as we can get. On the main drag near the intersection of Coney Island Avenue is Skovordoka, a family-owned restaurant that serves up traditional fare. Hire a zip car and order from the menu that is pretty much entirely in Russian. Now that's authentic.
