LaShawn Merritt, Track
The reigning gold medalist in the 400 meter race, speedster LaShawn Merritt will attempt to defend his title this summer in London. Merritt was also a part of Team USA's 4x400 relay that finished with the second fastest time ever en route to securing another gold. Following the 2008 games, Merritt faced controversy for failing three drug tests for banned steroids. He accepted a two year ban, but didn't slow down, qualifying for the 2012 Olympics with ease. During the trials, LaShawn ran the 400 in a blazing 44.12 seconds, the lowest time in the world this year. We'll see if the Virginia native can complete his comeback, and once again hold up the gold medal for the USA when he hits track in London.
