It's been well over one hundred years since the “Grande Dame of Carmel” made its appearance along the coast of California's most charming village. A luxurious mansion perched above the bay, the building was built in 1905 by an artist as a gift to his wife, a member of the Ghirardelli family. Two decades later the private home was transformed into a hotel, and since then the property has blossomed into La Playa Hotel, expanding with historical moments along the way.
Following an extensive ten-month-long, property-wide renovation costing $15 million, the property has emerged all the more elevated a destination - an oasis for creatives and techies (this is the place where Steve Jobs unveiled the first ever Mac, after all).
To celebrate the hotel's stunning new restoration by design firm Post Company, Marc & Rose Hospitality joined forces with IAMA Theatre Company and James Beard Award-winning chef Andy Baraghani for a weekend of delicious entertainment.
A champagne reception kickstarted the days-long festivities, which included an elaborate farm-to-table dinner, an immersive theater experience called “The Last Bohemian,” an ode to the bohemian heyday of Carmel, and much more artfully inspired merriment.
