People Are Watching A TON Of TV (Netflix)!
[Ted Sarandos, Bryan Lourd, Mellody Hobson]
It was interesting listening to Ted Sarandos, chief content officer, Netflix, in conversation with Bryan Lourd, partner and managing director, Creative Artists Agency. Some things we learned included:
1. Ted Sarandos says he’s not anti-theater; he's pro-movie.
2. In the next 10 years content will be delivered almost entirely on the Internet, and there will be a series of apps similar to the smart TV model.
3. "Ratings keep people from taking risks. That's why we avoid the arms race." - Ted Sarandos. Bryan Lourd says that won't last long.
But the far most interesting thing I learned? How much Netflix people are watching:
4. By one calculation - 10 billion hrs of Netflix were watched in 90 days, 65m subscribers, 150 hrs per subscriber, almost 2 hrs a day!
