le Bal des Débutantes, Paris, France

le Bal des Débutantes, Paris, France
The crème de la crème of debutante balls is held at one of the oldest luxury hotels in Paris, Hôtel de Crillon, in a ballroom overlooking the majestic Place de la Concorde. When brought to Paris in the late 1950’s, the debutante ball was held on alternating years at the Paris Opera House and in Versailles, and in the English tradition, the girls wore white gowns, white gloves, and tiaras. But a more modern version of le Bal emerged in 1992, when it began being held at the Crillon, and a humanitarian aspect was added. Now, money raised each year at the event is donated to various organizations, such as Lauren Bush’s Feed Foundation in 2011 (Lauren made her debut at le Bal in 2000). Hailed as “one of the top 10 social events in the world” by Forbes magazine, le Bal’s recent debutantes include Bruce Willis and Demi Moore’s daughters, Tallulah Willis (2011) and Scout Willis (2009); Princess Diana’s niece, Lady Kitty Spencer (2009;) and Forest Whitaker’s 17-year-old daughter, Autumn Whitaker (2009.) And those white gowns and gloves certainly are a thing of the past: American style-blogger and 2009 debutante Jane Aldridge wore a floor length black and white dress by Chanel HC, while Vivian Chou (2011), whose father's Hong Kong based firm owns Michael Kors, dazzled in Valentino Haute Couture. The Crillon Ball is known for attracting a particularly stylish set of girls, but what else would we expect? After all, this is Paris.
