Flaunt Magazine and Dell Host Nicolas Jaar, Matthew Dear, Young Fathers, VietNam, and more!
Where: The North Door
Other details: Flaunt Magazine and Dell treated guests to one of the most buzzed about shows of SXSW’s first day of music programming, hosting Nicolas Jaar (XCLSV), Matthew Dear (XCLSV), Young Fathers, VietNam, Orthy, Forever Changes and Tenlons Fort for a capacity show. Following soulful rock n' roll from Mexican Summer's VietNam, Scotland-based Young Fathers played their first show in America, treating fans to their inimitable blend Highland brogue and hip-hop. Matthew Dear delivered a DJ set of his singular, triumphant take on techno, teasing fans of what might be expected from his forthcoming Audion releases. Nicolas Jaar then took the stage, with a turnbtable from which he sampled Sun Ra’s ‘Of Mythic Worlds’, and a boombox, which he used to tune into Austin area FM static. Jaar’s built waves of noise, before teasing in tracks, like ‘Time For Us’ that had the crowd singing along. His hip-hop track ‘The Ego’ marked a transition into a frantic finale, which racheted up the BPM and turned the North Door into a sweaty dance pit, before closing proceedings with a beautiful live vocal rendition of ‘Space Is Only Noise’.
