Craigslist Rape Victim
One day, Sarah Shourd came across a picture of herself posted on a Craigslist ad with the caption,
"Need an aggressive man with no concern or regard for women. If interested, contact Sarah."
After finding the terrifying ad with her contact information, she immediately called the police but was only advised to contact Craigslist directly and have them remove the ad.
Unfortunately for Sarah, it was a little too late. In December 2009, she was attacked in her own home.
"Somebody was behind me, and they grabbed me around the shoulders and pushed me inside the house. His words to me were: 'You wanted an aggressive man, bitch. Here I am.'"
She was blindfolded, bound, and viciously raped by her male attacker for 30 minutes. The attacker was Ty McDowell, a 26 year-old married father of two, who worked at the local hospital as a radiology technician.
After the attack, Sarah found out that her bitter ex-boyfriend, Jebediah Stripe, was behind the Craigslist ad. While she was still in the ER, her fiance went back to get gather her belongings from the house and found a man standing in the living room with a video camera. The man was one of the 161 people who responded to the fake Craigslist ad and Jebediah had set up several dates and times for people to come to her house.
Both Ty and Jebediah were sentenced to 60 years in prison.
