The Kennedy Center is hosting a white tie dinner on Tuesday--the first of it's kind in 13 years, the Reliable Source reports. The dinner will feature long king's tables, trumpets, and a "white tie and decorations optional" dress code to kick off their "Nordic Cool" festival.
White tie, also known as full dress, is the most formal dress in Western fashion, ranking more formal than black tie. The chief components for men are a black dress coat commonly known as an "evening tailcoat," a white bow tie, a white waistcoat, and a starched wing collar shirt.
Women are to wear a long evening gown and typically the dress will also cover the shoulders. Women's gloves should be white and opera-length. The gloves are only taken off once seated at a table, then put back on once the meal is finished.
