But hosting 29 million annual visits - more than the Grand Canyon, Yosemite and Yellowstone national parks combined - has taken its toll. This park has been loved to death, and now faces hundred of millions of dollars in maintenance backlog. The Trust for the National Mall, an official nonprofit partner of the National Park Service, is working to restore, improve and preserve this sacred space.
