More than 100 celebrated Washington, DC area chefs, pastry chefs and mixologists joined forces for the cause – this year with their sights set on fighting against the RFRA [Religious Freedom Restoration Act] that is designed to bypass the favorable Supreme Court ruling on same-sex marriage. Set to the theme of “ReFRAin from Discrimination!” the gala had the joyfulness of a wedding celebration through an evening of food, drink, music and an incredible auction. The sweetest participants who created these meaningful monuments of love included the ladies of Georgetown Cupcake, Penny Karas of Hello Cupcake, Christina Tosi of Momofuku Milk Bar, Laurie Weber of The Swiss Bakery, Sara Siegel of Gruppo FT Restaurants, Lauren Petri of 1789, Peter Brett of Stratford University School of Baking and Pastry Arts, Tressa Wiles of Bayou Bakery, Coffee Bar & Eatery, Leslie Poyourow of Fancy Cakes by Leslie, Rebecca Clerget of Dog Tag Bakery, Tiffany MacIsaac of Buttercream Bake Shop [coming soon] Padua Player of Susan Gage Catering, Lara Halabi Stein of Fluffy Thoughts Cakes, Meredith Thomason of RareSweets, Geof Manthorne of Charm City Cakes along with Sticky Fingers Sweets & Eats and The Ritz Carlton DC.
