Top politicians and local figures made a toast to the Watchmakers of Detroit, welcoming the brand's new 14th street location to the nation’s capital. Washington and Detroit notables in attendance included Shinola’s Jacques Panis, Supermodel and Shinola Women’s Design Director Carolyn Murphy, Secretary of Labor Thomas Perez, DC Mayor Muriel Bowser, Michigan Senator Debbie Stabenow, Michigan Senator Gary Peters, Michigan Congresswoman Debbie Dingell, Michigan Congressman John Conyers, Michigan Congresswoman Brenda Lawrence, Obama Foundation Chairman Marty Nesbitt, Florida Congressman Patrick Murphy, White House Social Secretary Deesha Dyer, Monumental Sports & Entertainment CEO Ted Leonsis, Washington Capitals Players Karl Alzner, John Carlson, Braden Holtby and Nate Schmidt, and Mystics Player Kia Vaughn, among others. The opening of the D.C. store marks the brand’s ninth brick-and-mortar location. In addition to stores in Detroit and New York, Shinola has locations in Minneapolis, London, Los Angeles, Chicago, Ann Arbor and Plano.
