What: Masseria
Where: (Hidden at) 1340 4th St NE, Washington, DC
Why we love it: A visit to Masseria at night is akin to stumbling upon an elegant desert oasis among the warehouses that line the block adjacent to Union Market. After being welcomed by a neon sign (and at times a server who notices an Uber unable to find the destination), guests find a courtyard lined with comfortable lounge seating and sleek, modern fire pits followed by an open air patio (heated when necessary) and a small indoor bar, restaurant and kitchen. A reservation for Masseria will leave you waiting weeks, however, the wait is well worth it.
Top dishes on their current menu include Carne Cruda (Chapel Hill ruby Veal, Black Truffle, Parmigiano, Chervil, Radish and Celery); Tortellini with duck, peaches, thyme and sherry vinegar; Piccione (squab, Italian plums, tropea onion, leeks and spring onion); Cartellate (Marsala pasta beignet, seared grapes and Sicilian pistacchio gelato); and much more.
