The gays and the people who love them were disappointed to see that Hank's Oyster Bar had closed down a portion of their patio this past weekend. The question on everyone's lips was, "why?"
It seemed to be an interesting choice to close a portion of the patio--and not the entire patio--of the Dupont Circle hot spot the day before one of the busiest days of the summer. Folks may remember last year when the Alcoholic Beverage Control approved the restaurant's expansion of the popular patio after months of negotiations.
In an open letter on the restaurant's website to the Dupont Circle community, chef and owner Jamie Leeds explained ABC's reasoning behind closing down half of the patio. You may want to call you friend in law school, because this case seems wrought with legal issues.
But fear not, for Leeds is pleading the community to act up. From her letter to the community:
"If you agree that allowing a small number of individuals to dictate what happens in our community is wrong, please contact ABRA, Ward 2 CM Jack Evans, CM Jim Graham, Chair of the committee that oversees ABC, and Mayor Vincent Gray."
Let's all hope this issue is resolved quickly so foodies can delight in people watching and delicious food once more.
