The Silverlake Jubilee

If you've made to to Saturday, congratulations: you are now officially in the thick of Memorial Day Weekend. And rather than spending all your hard-earned money on some sort of trip out of town, why not just stay home and enjoy some of the great music festivals going on locally this weekend? First up is the extremely homegrown, KCRW-supported Silverlake Jubilee, happening Saturday and Sunday on a closed-off piece of Santa Monica Boulevard in Silverlake. But unlike that other derelict Silverlake street fair that shall remain nameless, the Jubilee is fully funded, has the imprimatur of the city council, and will actually be happening. And the lineup, while lacking in knockout star power, is fun, balancing headliners like nu-soul crooner Aloe Blacc and Mexican alt-rockers Kinky with locally beloved groups like Abe Vigoda, Princeton, Incan Abraham, Autolux and Tearist.
