Devo at Hollywood Park
We don't really have to explain to you why Devo is awesome, do we? No? I'm glad, because the multi-media "mechanized swing" band are a big personal favorite, with an insidiously subversive and hilariously cynical sense of humor that forms the foundation of their sonic and thematic influence over a whole generation of new wave and pop music. All of which is to say they're hopefully getting a kick out of the circumstances of Friday's L.A. appearance, where they'll be playing on the North Lawn of the Hollywood Park Racetrack after the ponies stop running. None of that should be construed as an insult to Mark Mothersbaugh and company, either, as Hollywood Park seems to have widely expanded their concert budget this summer, hosting other big acts like The Wailers, G. Love, and Michael Franti & Spearhead. [Details] [via]
