In that respect, do you try to apply this idea of ‘conscious consumerism’ to every aspect of your life? SD: Well, we always said that Zady was sort of a reflection of what’s happened in the slow food movement over the past 10 years. You know, growing up in the Midwest, watching farmer’s markets pop up all around us because there are so many farms in Minnesota, where we’re from, and over time seeing those farmer’s markets turn into local ‘farm to table’ restaurants; to see how Whole Foods has been so prolific across the country, how Trader Joe’s and The Fresh Market are doing quite well, as well. We really grew up watching the whole foods and slow food movement grow before our eyes. We feel as though we’re on the precipice of what’s about to happen, and it’s revolutionary as you say, in the apparel world. People are just as curious now as to where their products are coming from. But to answer your question, yes, we are pretty healthy in our choices of what we eat. We exercise, we go to yoga to de-stress. It seems like the last part of the puzzle is to feel really good and healthy about what we put onto our bodies. Now that we do, we call ourselves, ‘clothitarians.’ That’s our term for it although we need a better one. But now that we do, there’s sort of a sense of calm that comes from completing the puzzle.
