The first official documentation of AIDS came on June 5th 1982 and became known as "gay cancer" or "gay related immune deficiency". That September the CDC reported that one to two people in America were diagnosed with it every day. This was a striking blow to the gay community but they rallied on and continued their fight for civil liberties.
