Marilyn Monroe and Arthur Miller
Marilyn Monroe and Arthur Miller
Opposites attract. Great American playwright Arthur Miller, known for The Crucible and Death of a Salesman, married a great American bombshell, actress Marilyn Monroe, after a four-year interlude from their first meeting on a Fox sound-stage. Her desire to be taken seriously as an actress and his desire to escape his previous marriage was, for a time, a blissful union. Marilyn wrote from her suite at the Waldorf Astoria "I am so concerned about protecting Arthur I love him...and he is the only person that I trust as much as myself." Their marriage lasted until the year prior to Marilyn's death in 1962, making Arthur her third and final husband.
