For her brilliant portrayal of an abusive mother in the drama Precious, Mo’Nique nabbed a Best Supporting Actress Academy Award in 2010.  Known for playing comedic roles, this dramatic turn by the actress won her critical praise and numerous awards.  In a moving speech, Mo’Nique paid homage to the first black Oscar winner: “I want to thank Ms. Hattie McDaniel, for enduring all that she had to, so that I would not have to.”  Well said, Mo’Nique.
