Winning the Best Supporting Actor Oscar in 1997 for his comic turn in
Jerry Maguire,
Cuba Gooding, Jr. delivered one of the most memorable acceptance speeches in Oscar’s history. Gooding’s “thank yous” ran long, but he refused to leave the stage, even as the orchestra swelled to full crescendo. Responding to his exuberance, the audience cheered and gave the actor a standing ovation as he professed his love for them.
