Four years later, Lochte returned to the olympic games. In
Beijing, he competed in three individual events and a relay.
Lochte received the bronze medal for his 400 meter individual medley, another bronze for his 200 meter individual medley, and a gold medal for his 200 meter backstroke which also awarded him the world record holder for that stroke. Lochte also recieved a gold medal medal with his relay team. Lochte, along with Michael Phelps, Ricky Berens, and Peter Vanderkaay. The team broke a world record with their time of 6:58.56.
