Shanghai Tang, Hong Kong
If early 1900's Imperial China is where you get your fashion inspiration, then Shanghai Tang is the store for you. Founded in Hong Kong in the mid-90’s, Shanghai Tang owner David Tang wanted to create a label that would revive traditional Chinese fashion. Shanghai Tang is known for its’ bright, silk clothing, particularly slippers, robes, and dresses, and for its’ Chinese-inspired crafts, such as enamel salt and pepper shakers and picture frames. Shanghai Tang now has 15 locations around the world (including one on Madison Ave,) but only the store’s original location features an onsite tailor, who will take your measurements and custom-make just about anything you can dream up.
