Going Bicoastal: Designer Sophie Monet's Favorite Spots For A Night Out In LA

by Erica Cerulo · June 16, 2011

Sophie Monet, a ridiculously talented jewelry designer (who just created a pyrite-and-wood necklace for Of a Kind), knows her way around L.A. She’s lived between Santa Monica and Venice her whole life, minus those years she spent in New York for college. And not only is she a local, but she’s also a tremendously cool girl who knows the best spots in town for a night out that don’t try too hard.

Basement Tavern: “It's literally underground in an old Victorian house. The bar has a chalkboard wall you can draw on that I think is so unique.” (2640 Main St., Santa Monica, 310-396-2469)

Hinano Cafe: “This is a bar at the beach that serves up the best burgers in L.A. But it's a dive—filled with locals, cover bands, and some pool tables. It’s great!” (15 Washington Blvd., Venice, 310-822-3902)

Hide Sushi: “The name is pronounced hee-day, and it serves the most authentic—and delish—sushi you'll ever eat.” (2040 Sawtelle Blvd., Los Angeles, 310-477-7242)
