Last night, Santiago Barberi Gonzalez hosted a dinner at the Nancy Gonzalez showroom to celebrate Pamela Golbin's new book on Madeleine Vionnet. A fashion-minded group including Vogue's Hamish Bowles, Vanity Fair's Amy Fine Collins and Nina Garcia of Elle, Marie Claire and "Project Runway" were just some of those seated to dine in honor of the author, the Curator in Chief at the distinguished (and a personal obsession of mine) Musee de la Mode et du Textile of the Louvre, in Paris. The subject of her latest work is a designer hailed as "Queen of the bias cut," who dominated haute couture in the 30's, creating pieces for stars including Marlene Dietrich, Katharine Hepburn and Greta Garbo. The latest pages add to Golbin's great contributions to fashion, including her 2008 writing on Valentino and widely praised Balenciaga exhibition.
