Hamptons Car Of The Day: The Surf Lodge Teriyaki Truck

by BRITTA LOFGREN · July 28, 2010

Chef Sam Talbot, of Top Chef fame, has already helped propel Montauk's Surf Lodge into the smashing success its become through the past few years. Now, he's launched a new project...in their parking lot.

The new Food Truck at The Surf Lodge is serving up teriyaki plates all week long, Monday 12 -5pm / Tuesday 12- 9pm / Wednesday & Thursday 12-5pm / Friday 12-5pm and 10pm- 4am / Saturday 12 -5pm and 9pm - 4am / Sunday 2- 9pm. The truck currently inhabits a cozy spot right out front in the establishment's parking lot, but we could see great success if it were to take a cue from some of Manhattan's popular meals-on-wheels and stake out some of Montauk's popular beaches and surfing destinations.

Inspired by the "Hawaiian plate lunch," which is usually coconut rice, macaroni salad, and some sort of teriyaki beef or chicken, the truck is a popular favorite for surfers just coming to shore, or, as I'm sure you can imagine, the 4am crowd at the Surf Lodge on a Friday or Saturday night.

As Talbot dished to Eater about the limited menu options:

"...the truck is its own entity. It's a small space, not a lot of room in the refrigerator, it kind of is what it is."

Well, in our opinion, what it is...is pure deliciousness.
