Okay, so there have been a couple changes made and some new deets given, but Hamptons Free Ride will indeed be happening this summer. In their initial plan, they were hoping to make trips to East Hampton, Amagansett, and Montauk but are now only cruising through East Hampton for the time being, but are still planning to expand eventually.
Other changes made since our last post. According to CurbedHamptons:
-There are 3 cars, not 4
-Each car now seats 6 people, instead of 5 (score)
-The cars will make their rounds from 8am to 6pm, 7 days a week
-They've added some more stops to their East Hampton route:
The large parking lot just south of the YMCA at the end of Gingerbread Lane
East Hampton Train Station
Starbucks (on the parking lot side near the Blue Parrot)
Westbound East Hampton Jitney Stop
East Hampton Library (this stop was a specific request from the Town)
East Hampton Main Beach
Eastbound East Hampton Jitney Stop
East Hampton Movie Theatre (this is still TBD as it might be too dangerous to cross two lanes of traffic to make the left on Newtown Lane from here)
East Hampton Middle School
East Hampton Train Station
Back to the parking lot near the YMCA
Other Factoids to Know:
-The cars are electric Chrysler GEM cars
-They will officially launch Memorial Day weekend at 8am on Saturday, May 28th
-There will always be 2 cars on the road at any given time (the other car will be recharging)
