Sunset Beach: Shelter Island

Sunset BeachSunset Beach, Shelter Island Owned and operated by André Balazs of The Standard Hotels, The Chateau Marmont, The Mercer Insider Info: In 1997, hotelier André Balazs opened The Sunset Beach on Shelter Island, a precious little island north of Sag Harbor which had escaped any footprints from traditional Manhattan Hamptonites until then. Since it's arrival, the hotel with a scene-ridden restaurant/bar/beach and shop has managed to not only stay relevant, but continue to attract the biggest crew of European visitors each summer. Mostly due to the fact that it's one of the only hot spots to park your giant yacht in front of and enjoy a bottle or two of rosé away from the crowds off of 27 street. Balazs seems to have taken (almost) all of the good parts from the French and packed them into this summer hideaway. If you are longing for the crudites platter from club 55 in St. Tropez, and you have $26 to spend on veggies, this place is for you.
