Never show up empty handed when you are staying with a friend for a couple of days. A small gift of flowers, beer, champagne or something for the house is always appreciated by a host. If you are visiting your friends during a summer holiday, ask if you can handle the grill or at least make a couple of sides. Just remember to also do the dishes afterwards.
