St. Patrick's Day

St. Patrick's Day
Date: March 17 Details: Here in America, many of us look at St. Patrick's Day as just another excuse to day-drink, but what we all may have overlooked is that unlike all of our other favorite drunken holidays, drinking on St. Patrick's Day is basically a requirement. According to an old Irish legend, St. Patrick was having a drink at a tavern and he was served a glass of whiskey that was not full. St. Patrick decided to use the occasion to teach the bartender a lesson in generosity, so he told the bartender that a devil, who fed off dishonesty, was living in this basement of his tavern, and the only way to get rid of the devil was to change his stingy ways. Sometime later, St. Patrick returned to the same tavern and was happy to find that the bartender was now filling everyone's glasses to the top. From then on, St. Patrick declared that everyone should have at least a drop of whiskey on this day. Of course, we're all looking forward to swallowing a bit more than a drop of alcohol this St. Patrick's Day, and I think St. Patrick would be very proud! [Photo via]
