Cinco de Mayo
Date: May 5
Details: Every year on May 5th, Americans pull out their finest sombreros, stock up on the Coronas, and celebrate everything the Mexican culture has to offer. What's surprising is that outside of the Mexican state of Puebla, Cinqo de Mayo is rarely recognized in Mexico. But luckily, every vaguely Mexican restaurant in the USA goes wild for May 5th, and country-wide celebrations make sure that the culture and traditions of our friends to the South do not go uncelebrated.
The history behind Cinco de Mayo is that it was the date that the Mexican Army unexpectedly defeated the French forces at the Battle of Puebla in 1862. Based on the popularity of Cinco de Mayo celebrations in the US, it's clear that we use any excuse to drink as many glasses of sangria as possible!
