The Westminster Diamond Halo Tiara

You can never have too much of a good thing...
This sparkling halo-style tiara was designed by French jeweller Lacloche Frères in the early 1930s for Loelia Ponsonby, the third wife of the 2nd Duke of Westminster.
Originally, a trio of historical diamonds stole the show in this setting. Two pear-shaped Arcot diamonds, gifted to Queen Charlotte by the Nawab of Arcot, were set to either side of what was believed to be the Hastings diamond, a circular-cut stone given as a gift to King George III from Nizam Ali Khan in 1785.
Eventually the tiara was sold to Harry Winston, who re-set the piece with clusters of smaller diamonds in place of the three large stones.
Hard to imagine that this diadem used to have even more sparkle, no?
