With less than a week to go before the royal nuptials, London is buzzing with anticipation - while everyone involved in the celebration is hard at work. Pastry chef Claire Ptak, the California-raised, London-based (sound familiar?) owner of Violet Cakes has been selected for the gig of a lifetime - creating Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's palace-worthy wedding cake.
Back in March, Kensington Palace shared some details, Tweeting "Prince Harry and Ms. Markle have asked Claire to create a lemon elderflower cake that will incorporate the bright flavours of spring. It will be covered with buttercream and decorated with fresh flowers."
The official Twitter account also mentioned that Ptak "focuses on using seasonal and organic ingredients in her cakes," and that "Ms. Markle previously interviewed Chef Ptak for her former lifestyle website The Tig."
Today the bakery shared a photo of a huge delivery of lemons, with the caption "And so it begins," which is clearly a nod to the big day. A few hours later, however, Violet Cakes shared a snap of a petite cake creation, topped with peonies - Meghan's favorite flowers. Could this be a sneak preview of the practice run? Either way, the final result is sure to be a work of art.
