Lowlight: The Ray J/Pat Houston Feud
While the tribute songs were certainly moving, no tribute to Whitney would be complete without some sort of debacle, and that was easily provided courtesy of the ongoing beef between Whitney's sister Pat Houston and singer/Brandy's brother Ray J, who may or may not have been Whitney's boyfriend (he claims the two were just close friends) at the time of her passing. Since Pat has publicly blamed Ray J, who is most famous for doing R. Kelly-esque things to Kim Kardashian on videotape (I know, I know, be more specific), for being a bad influence on Whitney in her last months, she was reportedly outraged to find that Billboard had sat the two next to each other, and called security with the hope of having Ray kicked out of the show. While that threat was never followed through on, there was enough animosity to cause some visible awkwardness on camera, and TMZ reports that things were seconds away from a physical altercation, possibly involving uniformed cops, when Pat decided to pull the plug so as to not overshadow the tribute to Whitney that was about to go on stage. If Ray really was responsible for getting Whitney back on the hard stuff, that's one thing, but we're talking about a person who had ongoing contact with Bobby Brown, so that might be kind of a hard accusation to pin down. Also, where's the sympathy for Ray, who's being described in the gossip pages today as a rapper, a clear sign that nobody has listened to his music for a long, long time. It's okay, Ray, I still like "Let It Go." [via]
