Oh look, it's
Weezer guitarist
Brian Bell, breaking Rivers' embargo on appearing in public! Rivers won't be happy, Brian!
On a sidenote, I was just trying to explain to Emily (who, like many, "was obsessed with Weezer in middle school") that my brother has a long, complicated theory about how Weezer's role in ongoing pop culture is to serve as a "starter band" for middle schoolers trying to transition into liking real music. Basically, by more or less wearing all of the tropes of an indie rock band without actually being all that indie, Weezer can teach you how to be a fan of obscure music before you're ready to actually listen to obscure music, like training wheels on your headphones. I'm not sure this is the role that any band would willingly choose for themselves, but then again, they're still selling albums, so I guess it all works out.
