Sexual Liberation
After working at Esquire, Hugh founded his own publication with just $8000 and a little help from a nude portrait he bought featuring an unknown model, who, as we know, turned out to be Marilyn Monroe. Throughout the puritanical 1950s, he was a trailblazer of the sexual revolution, maintaining the (at the time, shocking) idea that women, even the "girl next door" types, enjoyed sex. And shouldn't be ashamed to.
