"Happy birthday Mr. President," crooned silver screen starlet Marilyn Monroe during one of the most scandalous moments in history. The Hollywood icon caused quite a stir back in 1962 when she sang for John F. Kennedy during a fundraiser held at Madison Square Garden, quite literally sewn into a glittering, flesh-colored gown.
The piece of pop culture, designed by Academy Award-winning costumer Jean Louis, went up for auction last night at Julien's in Los Angeles. Boasting enviable measurements and 2,500 hand-stitched crystals, the dress totally surpassed its expected price of $2.5 million, with the final bid of $4.8 mil going to Ripley's Believe It or Not. Guess you'll have to believe it.
