Childish Gambino
Donald Glover, a.k.a. Childish Gambino, is an undeniable talent. As a "Community" actor, stand-up, and former writer for "30 Rock," he's proven his comedic chops beyond a reasonable doubt, but as a rapper, he's also more accomplished than you might think, with his full-length album
Camp selling briskly on the Billboard 200 and perhaps giving Gambino, who spits punchlines, braggadocio, and angst-y insecurity with equal aplomb, a bit of well-deserved validation. And while
Camp is far from a perfect album (as it turns out, the juxtaposition of the braggadocio and the insecurity can be a little jarring), Glover's raw skills as an emcee and his ear for creative beats are far better than you might expect for a 20-something going on his fourth career. After overwhelmingly positive reviews for his shows on last summer's Rock The Bells tour, we'll definitely be checking out what he can do on a really big stage.
