Why Influencers Are Calling Revolve Festival The "Fyre Fest" Of Coachella

by Stephanie Maida · April 19, 2022

Coachella is back in full swing and hordes of influencers have once again been flocking to the California desert. Which, of course, can only mean that Revolve's annual gathering of the 'grammers has also commenced.

The fashion retailer kicked off the fifth iteration of its off-site Coachella bash this weekend, bringing forth a slew of A-listers and social media stars including Timothée Chalamet, Kim Kardashian, and Charli D'Amelio. And while the heavily hashtagged (and heavily branded) event was admittedly Insta-worthy, it nevertheless started trending for all the wrong reasons.

Sure, there were carnival rides serving as the perfect #OOTD backdrop, drinks by Kendall Jenner's 818 Tequila, and exclusive performances by Post Malone, Jack Harlow, and Willow Smith, but the VIP oasis held at the Merv Griffin Estate in La Quinta is currently being likened to the worst thing any PR rep wants to hear: Yes, that's right, the infamous Fyre Festival.

Not that you could tell from your IG feed.

So, what went wrong? According to some unlucky influencers who were forced to travel plebeian style (i.e. via Revolve's shuttle service and not an air-conditioned private car), the transportation process was "disorganized" at best, and "dangerous" at worst.

Picture this: crowds of fashionistas dressed in their Woodstock-meets-Mad Max #lewks waiting for hours in the sun, pushing, shoving, and bum-rushing the apparently very few buses that eventually arrived, all screaming "Don't you know who I am?!" at the same time.

Sure, it's not quite a FEMA tent situation, but still, a certain circle of hell.

Los Angeles magazine’s Joseph Kapsch shared a series of tweets detailing the conditions on Saturday, adding that "alleged fights" broke out while "security had crowds of influencers yelling how 'important they were and why they deserved the first seat.'"

Other invitees caught in the chaos took to TikTok to post videos of the scene and vouch for the Fyre Festival-levels of drama.

As for the attendees who actually got into the event? Well, they got their photo ops and appeared to have as good a time as any...
