You can never go wrong with a Dim Mak party, especially if Diplo and his Mad Decent crew are involved AND it's Mark "The Cobrasnake" Hunter's birthday. Steve Aoki's record label, Dim Mak, took their weekly party to a whole new level last night at Cinespace to celebrate Mark Hunter's bday and go off with a series of banging DJ sets. The night began with the premiere of Diplo's, Favela on Blast, a documentary on the Brazilian Baile funk genre the producer often draws on for his own music. The man is an artistic genius with an ability to turn everything he touches into something dope (i.e. M.I.A.'s music), so be sure to check out the film.
The premiere was followed by an amazing lineup of DJs that made the crowd sweat to sick beats. Total Freedom, Paul Devro, Nguzunguzu, Oro11, Ninjasonik, Them Jeans and Dan Oh all spun sets that had everyone dancing like crazy. Diplo even jumped on the turntables to add more insanity to the dance floor. Meanwhile, Mark Hunter partied with his hipster-epitomizing posse (leotards, leather biker gloves, 80s jackets) and wished himself a happy birthday with his shirt -- what a champ.
It's safe to say that Cinespace was the hot ticket of the night, but if you missed out, Dim Mak will be bringing you another bumping party next Tuesday.
