Slide #2

Ryden's work modernizes techniques of the old masters with touches of current pop culture, like one of the book's characters who rocks a cocktail dress made of meat, an overt reference to Lady Gaga at the 2010 MTV Music Video Awards. The artist's work is also characterized by turning kitschy sentiments of childhood innocence into haunting images of young girls and mythical creatures with dark and disturbing features. The pages of Pinxit alternate between Ryden's emotive artwork and a collection of essays from artists and art critics Yoshitomo Nara, Carlo McCormick and Kristine McKenna. While the 50 Art Editions have already sold out, 1,000 Collector's Editions to the tune of $1,000 are still available to hunt down for your own coffee table collection.
