The Allah-las Since, 1992, photo l.a. has been a dedicated platform introducing, celebrating and honoring the rich landscape of Los Angeles photographers. But before the event's lectures, panels and collection viewing being held all weekend could begin, photo l.a. kicked things off with an opening gala last night at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium. People from around the country showed up to honor Phil "Snapdragon" Stern and Bill Eppridge in anticipation of this weekend's 22nd annual photo l.a. exhibition. There was feasting, drinking and dancing, but the special occurrence was having Phil Stern, a former war photographer known for his iconic images of Hollywood stars like Marilyn Monroe and James Dean, in the same room as Bill Eppridge, a renowned photojournalist famous for his artful documentation of events and people during the 60s. The two chatted about their experiences and took photos of one another while they received their honors. Phil Stern, Bill Epperidge
