Happy 'One Day Without Shoes' Day

by Emily Green · April 8, 2010

Today is the 3rd annual One Day Without Shoes event sponsored by the good people at Toms Shoes, the footwear brand that gives a pair of shoes to a child in need for every Toms purchase.  For their One Day Without Shoes campaign, the footwear company asks that we all go the day, or at least part of it, if only for a few minutes, barefoot so we can know what life feels like without shoes (gentlemen, you should consider clipping those talons before exposing them to the world).  The hope is that they can spread awareness of the effect not having shoes can have on a child's life by getting a firsthand barefoot experience.  Events across the nation are taking place today in honor of the campaign and there's even a barefoot walk right here in L.A. starting on the Venice Pier.

For those of you who aren't able to join the events or go barefoot, you can participate by going shoeless virtually. Yes, you can raise awareness by changing all your social media icons and avatars to a barefoot you, feet, status messages, or anything else you can think of to get the point across - use your imagination. And have a happy barefoot day.
