Sid Grauman, the man who built the historic Hollywood Boulevard theater, as well as the Egyptian Theatre, also invented the idea of the star-studded movie premiere to help generate buzz and promotion for the film. As you've probably seen on this site more times than we care to remember, the tradition is still going strong with red carpet premieres taking place at Grauman's almost on a weekly basis. The theater’s very first movie premiere took place on May 18, 1927, with the film The King of Kings.
