The coldest summer in San Francisco couldn't keep music junkies away from the bay area last weekend. Golden Gate Park housed 65 bands, 4 stages, and thousands of music hungry folk for Outside Lands Music Festival. Angelenos migrated north to don their daisy wreath headbands, rock their Ray-Bans, and flaunt their flannel in the chilly bay breeze.
The two main stages had masses of people ping ponging back and forth through the park, as they managed to try and catch acts like Chromeo, Phoenix, Kings of Leon, and Empire of the Sun...in that order. For those not tech savvy enough to download their Outside Lands iPhone app, festival fans were constantly digging in their back pocket for their folded up printed out schedule to instruct their crew of debaucherous friends to the next act.
Keeping it classy, the festival had a Wine Lands tent set up for some vino tasting - how NorCal of them. If wine wasn't your drink of choice, there was more Heineken than a Thrillist event. The variety of beverages, and food ranging from pizza to greek salad, as well as... other herbal refreshments, quelled the hunger, thirst, and other cravings that were running rampant through a crowd that was rocking and "rolling".
While folks got their groove on to Kings of Leon, Empire of the Sun surely wrapped up the festivities and kept electro vibrations flowing freely. Looking back, the herds of Aussie loving fans started slowly swaying, but by the end of the night were jumping to jams.
The weekend was all about music loving and freewheeling, leaving those inside Outside Lands hungry for more, and eager to start saving up their pretty pennies for next year's fest.
