Ultra Music Festival/ Camp Bisco/Hardfest/Electric Daisy Carnival
Where/When Is It?: Ultra: Miami (March 23-25), Bisco: Upstate NY (July 12-14), Hardfest: Los Angeles State Historic Park (August 3-4), EDC: Las Vegas (June 8-10) What's It Like?: Although these vary in some respects (Bisco is in the middle of nowhere, Ultra has more Cubans), these heavy electro events are relatively similar in that they tend to hit most of the electronic dance music spectrum. Expect a buffet of trance, dubstep, techno, dancehall, and maybe a little something tropical with acts like Major Lazer, Justice, M83, and Skrillex. Notable Acts: Ultra: Skrillex, Miike Snow; Bisco: Skrillex, Disco Biscuits; Hardfest: Unannounced, probably Skrillex; EDC: Also unannounced, also probably Skrillex. Types of People: The EDM fanbase just seems to keep growing, so you never know who's going to turn up. However, you can expect to see lots of under-agers, a fair amount of neon mank bros, almost naked Korean girls, and plenty of fuzzy shoed glowstick wavers. Pros: Dance music has a tendency to make you, well,  dance, which means these shows will include lots of movement since EDM is pretty high energy (the copious amounts of E floating around may help too, although we're not suggesting or condoning drug use). Cons: At the big events like Ultra and EDC, good luck having any cell phone service. You and about 30,000 other people are all trying to text someone at any given second, so you'd better be cool being on your own if you stray away from your friends. Also, the bigger the event, the more expensive the water—something pretty important to remember at all quasi-raves. [All photos via]
